FAQ

Why am I blocked from registering for classes?
Payment on your account is your responsibility. Any student with an open balance at the end of a semester will have a financial block placed on their account with the University. To get the block released, payment should be made at the Student Accounting and University Cashiering Services in the Eagle Student Services Center (ESSC).

Do I get excused from class for being sick?
No. You can request a statement at your time of checkout from the Health and Wellness Center to show your professor that you were seen at the Center. Statements handed out for this purpose do not contain any Protected Health Information.

Will my insurance pay for my visit?
The Health Center is an out-of-network provider for all commercial insurances. If your insurance does cover out-of-network facilities, it is usually at a limited rate. It is usually wise not to expect your insurance carrier to cover all of your costs. Additionally, if you have insurance through our student insurance provider, the Health and Wellness Center is considered an in-network provider and most charges are covered. For more information you can always call the insurance office 940-565-2792.

Where do I park?
The Health and Wellness Center has parking spaces for patients in Lot 5, east of Chestnut Hall. A parking permit is required. If you have an appointment, the front desk will be glad to issue you a parking permit while you are at the Center.

How and where do I pay?
You may pay by cash, check or credit card. All payments are coordinated at the front desk. We also accept insurance assignments (see insurance question)

Is HIV testing available?
There are two ways to receive HIV testing available at the Student Health and Wellness Center. The Meadows Center offers free and anonymous testing by appointment. Call (940) 565-2787 for an appointment. HIV testing is also available at the Student Health and Wellness Laboratory. A doctor's order (clinical provider) is required. Call (940) 565-2333 to schedule a clinical provider appointment.

What immunizations are required to attend the University of North Texas?
None. The State of Texas makes no requirements for immunizations at this time. However, it is strongly advised to get a meningitis shot. Those are available at the Health and Wellness Center. Also, please read this pamphlet from the American College Health Association.

Where can I go to be treated when the Health and Wellness Center is closed?
The Health and Wellness Center's hours of operation are posted here. If you find yourself in need of medical treatment when we are closed, you can visit the local hospital of your choice. In Denton, you can choose from (the first three are hospitals/care clinics, the last is a pharmacy for after-hours prescriptions):
Denton Regional Medical Center: (940)384-3500
Presbyterian Denton Hospital: (940)898-7000
Minor Emergency Care of Denton: (940)382-9898
Yarbrough's Professional Pharmacy: (940)382-5033

Can my prescriptions from another doctor be filled at the Health and Wellness Center pharmacy?
Absolutely - as long as we carry the type of medication you need. You may also transfer prescriptions filled at any pharmacy to the Health and Wellness Center's pharmacy. See the pharmacist for details. We also utilize an on-line refill web site for your convenience.

What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring your student ID card, any insurance cards, and a form of payment.

What if I cannot make it to my appointment?
Please call ahead of time to cancel. The phone number is (940)565-2333. We are very busy and another student can use your appointment time.
